Calgary TALKers

Meet our April 2016 TALKers:

Ariana Brackenbury

Ariana will share about starting over at 60 and what magic can happen when we let go of logic and reason and allow our hearts to lead the journey.
Bio:At the age of 60, it was clear that I had no option, but to start over. I just had no idea how I could recreate myself. I wasn’t just at a crossroads – at the lowest point in my life. I would have been grateful for that much direction. I found myself in a place where I had no capacity to even process what was happening to me, let alone what was possible for me. I was absolutely and completely lost. Oddly, the answer came during a physiotherapy session. The therapist asked me if I had ever thought about walking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. I felt a huge shiver and immediately knew this was part of my answer. I made a snap decision to embark on a 100-day journey backpacking around the world. I could not have known how profoundly that would change my life.

Our February 17, 2016 TALKers

Glenda Savard

Choosing a Word Glenda’s talk is about choosing a word to live your year through. How to choose it, what it can do for you, how to live your life intentionally by choosing a word. And then once you are intentional about the word what you will find it can teach you about yourself.

Bio: Savards’ thirst for adventure and love for art has been evident from a young age. Growing up with an extended family of mostly boys, Savards’s favorite memories as a child were climbing trees and swimming in dugouts in beautiful landscapes around Saskatchewan. Painting and drawing on any surface that was available to her. While in elementary school, Savard worked to enhance her skills across many mediums including charcoals, watercolour and oils under the watchful eye of her teachers. Taking pause from her artistic passion to pursue her ongoing fascination with the world of science, Savard began working as an Aerial Photographer at 19 and lived and worked in over 40 countries because of it. Clearly armed with the grit and determination to take on any ambition, Savard reconnected with the world of art through her love of nature and adventure. Immersing herself in the Rockies of Alberta and exploring the varied terrain of Africa, Central and South America as well as that of Canada and the Western USA, reinvigorated her desire to recreate the beautiful sites with powerful oil paintings. Savard has rapidly emerged as a must-watch for art and nature lovers worldwide. And in 2014 she was awarded the Medal D-Etain through the Societe National des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. Her eye for vibrant colour and invigorating take on landscape and figurative work has earned her a steadfast fan-base and loyal collectors that wait with baited breath to see what she will paint next.

After two decades she began to realize the one story she hasn’t told is her own. That changes now. Over the last year, Jenelle has embarked on a process of writing love letters in an effort to love herself and the world more fully. Her vested interest in this process is to pass on a legacy of love rather than fear to her to daughters and create the love story of her dreams with her amazing husband Garett.
